SCSPCA & DEC Police Remove Capuchin Monkey from Brentwood Home

NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and the Suffolk County SPCA removed a Capuchin Monkey from a home in Brentwood.

Brentwood, NY - May 21, 2016 - NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and the Suffolk County SPCA removed a Capuchin Monkey from a home in Brentwood.  

A complaint was received on May 20th, 2016 that the monkey was being illegally kept on the property. The owner has been charged.

Chief Roy Gross of the Suffolk SPCA said that the monkey will be transported to a licensed facility. These primates can transmit infection diseases and can inflict serious injury. According to NYS Department of Environment Protection a permit is required for primates. They are illegal to own without a permit.

Representatives from SPCA and DEC will be available to update the public during a press conference held on May 22, 2016 at 11 a.m. at 725 Veterans Memorial Highway, Building 16, in Hauppauge, NY.
