AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 11 PM EDT MONDAY The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam. from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Sunday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Suffolk County Police Officers Rescue Shirley Man from House Fire

Officers responded to a 911 call reporting smoke coming from the second floor of a residence located on Floyd Road.

Suffolk County Police officers recently rescued a man from a house fire in Shirley.
 
Seventh Precinct officers responded to a 911 call reporting smoke coming from the second floor of a residence located at 246 Floyd Road just before 8 p.m.
 
Officers Kyle Negrin and Harrison Dow arrived on scene and were alerted a man was possibly still inside the home and the roof and second floor were on fire. The officers entered the residence through a rear entrance and found a 51-year-old on the second floor and escorted him out of the house.
 
The man was evaluated on scene and was not injured. Officer Negrin was taken via ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead for treatment of smoke inhalation.
 
The cause of the fire is being investigated by Suffolk County Police Arson Section detectives.
