Wyandanch Man Busted with Illegal Firearm During Domestic Disturbance Arrest, Cops Say

The Third Squad reports the Arrest of a Wyandanch man on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 6:17 pm in Roslyn Heights.
 
According to Detectives, the female victim, 55, of Wyandanch was traveling with Defendant Derrick Bonds, 49, of 22 Beech Street in his blue colored 2016 Mazda. After receiving a telephone call, Defendant Bonds became aggressive and started yelling at the victim that he was in control and that the victim was going to do what he told her to do.  
 
When the victim told Defendant Bonds that she was not going to do anything he said, he became very angry and with the back of his hand he struck the victim’s left cheek and lip causing pain and a laceration; he began yelling that he was going to retrieve his gun that was in a black bag in the vehicle.  
 
Defendant Bonds then pulled the vehicle over and stopped on the side of the road he exited the vehicle to retrieve the weapon. The victim in fear of her safety, jumped into the driver’s seat and fled the scene, leaving Defendant Bonds on the roadway.  
 
The victim drove to a safe location in front of 373 Willis Avenue and contacted Police alerting that there may be a gun in the vehicle. When Officers arrived, they observed the victim extremely upset and in need of medical assistance; she was transported to a local area hospital for evaluation.  Defendant Derrick Bonds was located by Police in front of 220 Mineola Avenue and placed under arrest. 
 
Defendant Derrick Bonds is charged with Assault 3rd Degree, Menacing 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree and Unlawful Possession of Certain Ammunition Feeding Devices Not in the Home 1st Degree.  
 
He will be arraigned on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
