NCPD: Flushing Man Accused of Punching Police Officer in Face During Drunk Driving Arrest

The Public Information Office reports the arrest of a Flushing man for an Assault that occurred on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at 4:35 a.m. in Mineola.
 
According to Police, Lynbrook Officers were processing defendant Deshawn Gatewood, 28, of 6123 156th street, at the Nassau County Police Department Headquarters, located at 1490 Franklin Avenue, for a DWI arrest that occurred within their jurisdiction.
 
During the arrest processing, defendant Gatewood struck a Nassau County Police Officer in the face with a closed fist causing injury. The injured Officer was transported to a local area hospital for treatment. 
 
Defendant Gatewood is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Ability Impaired, and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law Violations. He will be arraigned on Monday, May 27, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
