Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison presided over the Suffolk County Police Academy graduation ceremony in Brentwood on May 27 at 10 a.m.

As part of their training, the recruits completed 31 weeks of academy training with more than 1,000 hours of instruction including law, emergency medical training, domestic violence, anti-bias training, mental illness, cultural diversity and terrorism. This recruit class was the first to receive training on body worn camera technology.

Of the 69 SCPD recruits, 17 have prior law enforcement experience and 17 have military experience. In addition to the Suffolk County Police recruits, 15 joined the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, Southold Town Police Department, East Hampton Town Police Department and Riverhead Town Police Department.

As an act of giving back to the community, the class raised more than $7200 for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which benefits first responders, by hosting an exercise workout fundraiser.
