The Coliseum Inn in East Meadow has been condemned and closed t due to "unsafe and unsanitary conditions," according to Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin in a statement.

Individuals living at the motel, located at 1650 Hempstead Turnpike, were forced to move out by police; a Town of Hempstead spokesperson confirmed that they assisted the displaced people in finding new hotels to stay at.

Reasons cited for the closure include issues with mold in the rooms;  drugs and other safety issues also were possibly driving factors.

After being officially condemned and the inhabitants moved to other living facilities, the property was padlocked by Nassau County Police.
