Man in Police Custody After Allegedly Setting Fire in Hempstead Parking Lot

Hempstead, NY - June 1, 2018 - The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of a Hempstead man for Arson that occurred on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 9:59 pm in Hempstead.
 
According to Arson/Bomb Squad detectives, Hempstead patrol officers observed a fire in the parking lot of 10 Jerusalem Avenue. The fire was near the tire of a 2014 Honda Accord. The fire was extinguished and officers interviewed a male subject in the vicinity of the parking lot. Bernadino Jocon, 29, was arrested for two (2) outstanding warrants.
 
A subsequent investigation was conducted and it was determined that Jocon was responsible for starting the fire at 10 Jerusalem Avenue.
 
Bernadino Jocon is also responsible for a house fire that occurred on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 30 Jerusalem Avenue.
 
Defendant Jocon is charged with Arson 3rd Degree, Arson 3rd Degree (Attempted) and Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree. He will be arraigned on Friday, June 01, 2018 at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
