AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Home Health Aide Arrested for Stealing Jewelry from Patient in Coram

Suffolk County Police have arrested a home health aide for stealing jewelry from a patient she was caring for during the past month.

Coram, NY - June 3, 2015 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a home health aide for stealing jewelry from a patient she was caring for during the past month.

Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives initiated an investigation on May 9 when a 74-year-old Coram woman reported numerous pieces of jewelry, valued at more than $3,000, had been stolen from her home between May 1 and May 9.

Detectives arrested Melissa Acevedo, who was working for the victim as a home health aide, and charged her with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree. Acevedo was employed by Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk County.

Acevedo, 27, of Selden, is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
