Stargazing during Astronomy Nights at Sagamore Hill

Bring a chair and blanket and get ready for a night of stargazing outdoors at Sagamore Hill in Oyster Bay. The national historic site opens it's grounds and offers a series Astronomy Night events with free telescope observations and children's activities. The series runs through Sept. 21 and is in partnership with the Amateur Observers Society of New York ( aosny). 516-922-4788, nps.gov/sahi

Mixed martial arts competition at Nassau Coliseum

Some of the best fighters in the world are expected for the Professional Fighters League MMA (mixed martial arts) event at NYCB Live's Nassau Coliseum, 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9. This time around, the PFL features its women's lightweight and men's welterweight divisions. The event continues on June 6. 516-231-4848, nycblive.com

Music at Jones Beach

Mark your calendars and get ready for this year's concert series coming to Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater. Among the acts coming this summer are Adam Sandler, June 20; Third Eye Blind, July 11; Dave Matthews Band, July 17; Nelly, TLC and FLo Rida, Aug. 1; Jimmy Buffet and the Coral Reefer Band on his  Son of a Sailor Tour, Aug. 8. Belmont Stakes Racing Festival

The Belmont Stakes Racing Festival has a lineup of stakes races. First post is 3:05 p.m. Thursday, June 6 and post time is 12:50 p.m. on Friday all leading up to the Belmont Stakes with post time at 11:35 a.m. on Saturday, June 8. Before the big race Saturday, look for the Runhappy Metropolitan Handicap, Ogden Phipps Handicap and the Jaipur Invitational Stakes, all qualifiers for the Breeders' Cup in November at Santa Anita. Belmont Stakes is expected around 6:40 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at Belmont Park in Elmont. Look for concerts by Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes on Friday and Flo Rida on Saturday. 75th anniversary of D-Day at American Armor Museum

The Museum of American Armor pulls out the big guns, noon Thursday, June 6 as part of its salute to the 75th anniversary of the historic D-Day landings of the Allied Forces on June 6, 1944, in France. Head to the museum, 1303 Round Swamp Rd. in Old Bethpage, and you'll be surrounded by the weapons and operational armor of that era. Run Eisenhower Park help Police Crisis Fund

Show thanks to your local law enforcement officers by participating in the Long Island Police Appreciation Run, 7 p.m. Thursday, June 6, registration opens at 5:15 p.m. at Eisenhower Park field house. Celebrate World Oceans Day by raising a glass

Since good water, makes good beer and to celebrate World Oceans Day, The Whaling Museum in Cold Spring Harbor hosts Whales, Ales and SaltyTales, 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 8. Highlights include live music by Sampawam's Creek, whale boat chats about Long Island life in the 1850s, local brewers talk about their recipes and give demonstrations and, of course, plenty of beer, cider and ale tastings from local breweries.

Feast at this Calverton food fest

As part of a farm-to-table movement, North Meets South! Farms, Food and Drink Festival is focused on the North and South forks of the East End and the provisions from local farms, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and 9, 149 Edwards Ave., Calverton. Sip, taste and purchase food and drink. Meet farmers and talk to trained chefs. Join the Bavarian Heritage Festival in Franklin Square

The Original Enzian German folk dance group presents its 45th annual Bavarianfest at Plattduetsche Park. Gates open at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, and noon on Sunday, June 9, in Franklin Square. Hear live music by Foehrer Musik Freunde and Die Spitzbuam, and taste German food specialties including wursts, pretzels and imported beer. Watch Polo at the Park in Farmingdale

Be there for the opening day of Polo at the Park at Bethpage Stage Park in Farmingdale, 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 9, the start of the New York Polo series. The fields will be alive professional polo players and their ponies. Gates open at 2 p.m., summer chic attire is encouraged. Greek festival in Brookville

The Greek flag flies high during the Greek Village Festival, 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, June 7; 3 to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 8; and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at the Greek Orthodox Church of The Holy Resurrection in Brookville. Taste Greek  specialties like moussaka, spanakopita and gyros. Bouzouki music and Greek dancing will have you thinking of the Greek Isles. Also find a flea market and kid rides.
