Teen Arrested in Westhampton For Threatening to “Shoot the School”

Written by Lon Cohen  |  03. June 2022

On Thursday afternoon, a 13-year-old student at Westhampton Middle School was arrested after he threatened to “shoot the school.” Westhampton Beach Police arrested the teenage boy when the violent threats were reported to authorities by school officials.

According to a police report, the teen made the threat because he said that he was annoyed and frustrated with other students. He told other students and officials he was being picked on and this was the only way to solve the problem, referencing the recent Uvalde, Texas shooting.

The incident was reported by school officials to the Westhampton Beach Police School Resource Officer and then investigated by the Criminal Investigations Unit and Southampton Town Police detectives.

The unidentified teenager was arrested at approximately 1:30pm and charged with Making a Terroristic Threat and Aggravated Harassment.

It is anticipated he will appear in Family Court at a later date.

Although there are no other specified threats, Westhampton Beach Police will have increased presence in the school district and have been in constant communication with school administration.
