According to detectives, Freeport Police were notified of a robbery that occurred in the vicinity of Broadway and N. Columbus Avenue in Freeport.  Upon arrival, officers located a female victim, 27, who stated she was approached by an unknown male subject that grabbed her necklace, from around her neck and fled the scene in a white sedan.  No injuries were reported.

A short time later, the subject was involved in an auto accident striking multiple vehicles at the intersection of Nassau Road and Woods Avenue in Roosevelt.  As a result of the collision, a 2008 gray Nissan Rogue being operating by a 45-year-old female and a gray 2015 Honda Accord being operating by a 28-year-old male were transported to a local area hospital for evaluation and treatment of their injuries.  The male subject then fled the scene on foot.

Subsequent to the investigation, detectives located Defendant Jarred Sowers, 30, of 14 Vancott Avenue with the assistance of Hempstead Police Department, on West Columbia Street in Hempstead.  While officers attempted to place Sowers into custody, he resisted and refused to comply with verbal commands, causing an officer to sustain an injury.  The officer was transported to a local area hospital for evaluation and treatment.

During the investigation, it was determined that the white 2018 Mercedes Benz being operated by Defendant Sowers at the time of the auto accident, had been stolen from a Uniondale residence on Friday, May 24, 2024.  The investigation also revealed that Sowers had stolen two bicycles, one from a gated rear yard, at two separate Roosevelt residences.
