AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. The toll free number is 1 800 5 3 5, 1 3 4 5.

Suffolk County Legislators Bill Lindsay (8th District) and Tom Cilmi (10th District) recently honored volunteer members of the Bohemia Fire Department.

Bohemia, NY - June 6, 2016 - Suffolk County Legislators Bill Lindsay (8th District) and Tom Cilmi (10th District) recently honored volunteer members of the Bohemia Fire Department who have also served in the United States Military by presenting them with commemorative veteran pins to be worn on their uniforms.

“When veterans complete their active service, they typically look for avenues to stay involved in community affairs and places to put themselves to work to continue their dedicated service to their community – many veterans find that right here in our local fire departments and ambulance corps,” said Legis. Lindsay. “We have one of the highest populations of veterans in the entire country right here in Suffolk County and we have to take every chance we can to encourage, honor, and thank them for their tremendous sacrifices.”

Legislator Tom Cilmi added, “It is a privilege to offer special thanks to those who have served in the military and continue to serve our communities here at home in the volunteer fire service.  The pins and certificates we presented today are just a small token of the boundless admiration we have for these brave men and women.”
