Weather Alert

ELEVATED RISK OF FIRE SPREAD Increasing northwest winds and drying low levels will create conditions more conducive for fire spread today into early this evening. Relative humidity is expected to decrease to near 25 to 30 percent this afternoon into early this evening, while wind gusts increase to 35 to 45 mph. An isolated gust to 50 mph will be possible. These conditions would likely aid fire spread if ignition occurs. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and residents are urged to exercise caution if handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery, cigarettes, or matches. The annual statewide burn ban is in effect until May 14. No burn permits are issued. For more information about wildfire danger and wildfire prevention, please visit the New York Department of Environmental Conservation website at http://dec.ny.gov/environmental- protection/wildfires. This forecast considers meteorological, fuel, and land conditions and has been developed in coordination with state fire and land management officials. Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci is encouraging Town of Huntington residents to take advantage of a free energy audit with Long Island Green Homes as the Town continues its partnership with the non-profit collaborative funded through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.

"Huntington is proud to continue our partnership with other Long Island Towns and community organizations through the Long Island Green Homes program to help residents save energy, protect the environment and support our local economy," said Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci.

Long Island Green Homes is a non-profit collaborative partnership of Long Island Towns, community organizations and the Sustainability Institute at Molloy College funded primarily with a grant awarded by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority to help Long Islanders improve their homes and use energy more wisely.

Tens of thousands of Long Island homeowners have already received free energy audits (conservatively a $400 value *) because New York State and PSEG Long Island recognize that having an energy efficient home is not only good for the environment, but also good for your wallet and the local economy.

  • The FREE energy audit is the first step to lowering your energy bills, and in making your home more comfortable year-round.
  • Learn where your home's biggest energy efficiency gains can be made.
  • Receive a comprehensive report of your home's energy use conducted by a certified professional.
  • Fix any energy efficiency issues with affordable improvements.
  • Every home energy audit includes a carbon monoxide safety check of your home's combustible appliances.

Every energy auditor in the Long Island Green Homes program is Long Island-based and Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified. BPI is a national organization that sets the technical standards for contractors in energy-efficient building performance, so you know they’re applying the latest knowledge and technology to the energy efficiency of your home.
