There are some patches of dense fog that will reduce visibilities down to a quarter mile or less. Motorists should use low beam headlights and remain alert for rapidly changing visibilities. Allow extra time to reach your destination.

Shirley, NY - June 12, 2017 - William Floyd Elementary School recently hosted its third annual “Forget Me Not” Spelling Bee resulting in donations of $2,133 to assist the Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center in Bay Shore, an organization that supports research to one day find a cure for Alzheimer’s, as well as provide care, support and educational programs for families with loved ones suffering from the disease. In three years since this spelling bee’s inception, students and staff have raised $8,651!
 
This year’s winners by grade level include: Isabella Maurer, kindergarten; Maxwell Garcia, first grade; Tyrik Johnson, second grade; Sergio Calderon, third grade; Aisha Barrie, fourth grade; and Arianna Boscia, fifth grade. Congratulations to the winners and all the participants for raising funds and awareness for this worthwhile cause.
 
The “Forget Me Not” Spelling Bee was started by William Floyd Middle School seventh grader Krista Cusimano when she was a fifth grader at William Floyd Elementary School in memory of her grandfather, Raul “Pa” Vosgerichian, who passed away from Alzheimer’s at the age of 66.d.
