St. James, NY - June 15, 2015 - On Wednesday, June 10, Harbor Country Day School hosted its 56th annual commencement ceremony to celebrate the graduation of its 16 eighth-grade seniors.
“All of us at Harbor are tremendously proud of our graduates – our ‘fearless leaders’ of 2015,” said Harbor Country Day’s Head of School, John Cissel. “This year’s graduating class is a perfect representation of all that is unique and wonderful about Harbor Country Day. Each and every one of these talented young men and women has shown us in their own, distinctive way that they’re ready to tackle any challenge, overcome any obstacle and work as hard as is necessary to lead successful, fulfilling lives. I’m honored to have had the opportunity to watch them grow and develop into the incredible young men and women they are today.”
Adrienne Owen, chair of the Harbor Country Day Board of Trustees, added: “As our ‘Portrait of a Graduate’ illustrates, Harbor strives to develop self-reliant, confident learners and leaders who embrace their individuality, challenge themselves and contribute to the world around them. The members of our class of 2015 perfectly exemplify that portrait. Through all of their years at Harbor, individually and collectively, they demonstrated leadership, teamwork, determination and compassion in everything they did. As a mother of a fourth grader at Harbor, I cannot think of a better example for my son to follow.”
Harbor Country Day’s “Portrait of a Graduate” states: “Harbor graduates are fearless learners. They possess the moral and ethical foundation that prepares them to exhibit compassion and tolerance in a global community. Harbor graduates are culturally experienced and conversant in the humanities. They are reflective leaders who negotiate effectively. They are prepared to fulfill their best dreams because they view themselves as works in progress.” This missive guides Harbor’s administration, sets standards for curriculum development and illustrates the unique spirit that permeates the school and its students.
The members of Harbor’s class of 2015 will attend leading private and public high schools throughout Long Island, including Chaminade, St. Anthony’s, The Stony Brook School, Friends Academy, The Knox School, Ward Melville, Commack and Sachem.
