Written by Lon Cohen  |  18. June 2024

The Long Island Expressway was closed down for almost an hour as emergency crews cleared a two-car accident from the roadway. The accident occurred at about 5:15 pm on Tuesday evening near Exit 63. Traffic was backed up for miles on the westbound lane as the accident was cleared.

A Suffolk County Police spokesperson said that there were no serious injuries reported.

An hour after the accident, traffic was still backed up on the westbound LIE with emergency vehicles on the side of the road and both cars towed to the side. All lanes had been re-opened.

We will update this story if anything changes.
