Valley Stream, NY - June 19, 2018 - The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of a Queens man for an incident that occurred on Monday, June 18, 2018 at 5:37 pm in Valley Stream.
According to Detectives, a police officer on patrol did observe a white Ford Econoline van fail to signal a lane change, while eastbound on Green Acres Road in Valley Stream. The Officer initiated a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop.
During the investigation, the driver, defendant Jeremiah Johnson, 38, of Springfield Gardens, did flee the scene causing the van to run over officer’s right foot. The Officer did observe the defendant commit multiple VTL violations, cause two auto accidents without stopping and then struck the officer’s vehicle before coming to a complete stop at the intersection of Alden Avenue and Bee Street Valley Stream.
Defendant Johnson did exit his vehicle abruptly, causing a loaded .357 Magnum revolver to fall from the driver’s side of vehicle as he fled on foot. Officers located the defendant in a rear yard on Rottkamp Street and after refusing the Officers lawful orders and a struggle with officers he was placed into custody at 6:00pm. The weapon was recovered and secured by officers.
Defendant Johnson is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Obstructing Government Administration, two counts of Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest and multiple VTL Violations. He will be arraigned on Tuesday June 19, 2018 in First District Court 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
