Suffolk SPCA Charges Two Brentwood Men with Starving, Neglecting 18 Shih Tzu/Poodle Mixes

On June 18, 2019  the Suffolk County SPCA was  contacted by the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department while at a location for an eviction. Eighteen (18) Shih Tzu / Poodle Mixes were found to be living in deplorable conditions, in feces and urine, with no access to water. The dogs were severely matted, urine soaked and had feces stuck in the matting. SPCA detectives charged Oscar Arias Sr., 49 and Oscar Arias Jr., 23, of Brentwood with animal cruelty for failure to provide proper sustenance. 
  
The 10 females and 8 male dogs, all under the age of 6, were removed from the home and transported to Islip shelter.   
 
Both Oscar Arias Sr. and Oscar Arias Jr. are scheduled to appear in First District Court on August 21, 2019. 
 
Chief Gross said that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County.  If you witness any incident of animal cruelty or neglect in Suffolk County please contact the Suffolk County SPCA at (631) 382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
