AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Authorities Report Man Killed in Hauppauge Motor Vehicle Crash

A 2006 Chevrolet Impala was traveling on the Long Island Expressway when it struck a 2007 Mini Cooper east of exit 55, officials say.

SCPD are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a man in Hauppauge.

Hauppauge, NY - June 20, 2018 - Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a man in Hauppauge on Tuesday, June 19.
 
A 2006 Chevrolet Impala was traveling westbound on the Long Island Expressway when it struck a 2007 Mini Cooper east of exit 55 at approximately 6:10 p.m. The Chevrolet veered off the road and into a wooded area where it struck several trees.
 
The driver of the Chevrolet, a 56 year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
 
The driver of the Mini Cooper, Darren Cheng, 20, of College Point, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with non-life-threatening injuries.
 
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
