Hauppauge, NY - June 21, 2016 - Island Harvest Food Bank will host its 20th-Annual Golf Classic, presented by Petro Home Services, at one of the region’s foremost golf courses, The Creek Club, in Locust Valley, on Thursday, August 4, 2016. The hugely popular fund-raising event will honor Robert “Bob” McMeekin, president and CEO of Interbrand LLC, for his dedication in supporting Island Harvest Food Bank, and numerous other causes that address children in need, the environment, the United States Armed Forces, and first responders.

The Classic will begin at 10 a.m. with brunch and registration, be followed by an 11 a.m. shotgun start, and conclude with its Dinner on the Sound awards’ celebration at 6 p.m. Golf registration, which includes the Dinner on the Sound, is $800 per individual golfer, and $3200 for a foursome.

For those wishing to attend just the Dinner on the Sound awards’ celebration, tickets are $165 per person. At the awards’ dinner, there will be some great prizes auctioned off, including rounds of golf at some of the area’s most exclusive golf courses; New York-area sports teams’ memorabilia, and sporting and event tickets; gift certificates from some of the area’s leading restaurants; vacation trips; and great merchandise.

McMeekin, a resident of Oyster Bay Cove, New York, has served as president and CEO of New York City-based Interbrand LLC since 1998. Interbrand LLC is a worldwide accessory company, specializing in socks, headwear, gloves and scarves. The company manufactures and markets products in seven countries, and owns and operates two factories in Taiwan. Interbrand LLC is the global licensee for such well-known labels as Timberland and Rockport. Through a partnership with Timberland, McMeekin and Interbrand LLC have supplied thousands of hats and socks to children in need.

“Bob’s passion and dedication to giving back to the community is evident in many ways, including as a supporter of Island Harvest Food Bank, and several other important organizations and causes,” said Randi Shubin Dresner, president and CEO, Island Harvest Food Bank. “It’s with great pleasure that we honor Bob on the occasion of our 20th-Annual Golf Classic, for his support of our efforts in helping transition food-insecure Long Islanders from uncertainty to stability.”

About Hunger on Long Island
Hunger is a state in which people do not get enough food to provide the nutrients for active and healthy lives. It can result from the recurrent lack of access to food. More than 316,000 Long Islanders face the risk of hunger every day, according to Island Harvest Food Bank and Feeding America, a national hunger-relief organization. Those facing hunger include adults (often working two jobs), seniors and veterans. Unable to make ends meet, they (and their children) are often forced to go without food. Approximately 70,000 individuals seek food assistance in Nassau and Suffolk counties each week through soup kitchens, food pantries and other feeding programs served by Island Harvest Food Bank.
