AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. New Hyde Park, NY - June 21, 2015 - The Public Information Office reports the details of an arrest for Driving While Intoxicated/Leandra’s Law that occurred on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 10:45 pm in New Hyde Park

According to police, 911 received a call for a three vehicle auto accident that occurred at the intersection of Covert Avenue and 11th Street.  Upon police arrival, defendant Timothy McAleavey, 52, of Stewart Manor was observed being unsteady on his feet, glassy eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected on his breath.  The defendant was placed under arrest at the scene.  Also three children ages 1, 2 and 4 (not related) were seated in the rear of the defendants’ 2003 Ford pickup truck at the time of the accident.  There were no reported injuries.  The children were released to the mother who was inside the automobile at the time of the accident.

Defendant McAleavey is being charged with 3 counts of Aggravated Driving Intoxicated -Leandra’s’ Law, 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Intoxicated, Excessive Tinted Windows and 3 counts of Rear Passengers under the age of 4 Unrestrained.  He will be arraigned on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
