Two Roosevelt Men Arrested After Attempted Armed Street Robbery, Cops Say

Freeport, NY - June 22, 2018 - The First Squad reports the arrest of two (2) Roosevelt men for an Attempted Robbery that occurred on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 1:15 a.m. in Freeport.
 
According to detectives, a male victim, 34, was walking to his car and was approached by Arturo Vasquez Santillan, 25. The subject displayed a handgun and demanded money. A second victim, a 32 year old female, walked over to see what was going on. The second victim observed a second subject approach, Reyes Lazo, 23, with a handgun displayed in the front of his pants. Both victims were able to make it to their vehicles and leave the scene. No proceeds were taken from either victim. Both subjects entered a black Toyota Camry with Tennessee registration X4113D and fled the scene. 
 
Upon further investigation, Freeport police stopped the vehicle on Long Beach Avenue. Both subjects were placed under arrest without further incident. 
 
Arturo Vasquez Santillan is charged with Robbery 1st Degree (Attempt), Criminal Use of a Firearm 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Robbery 2nd Degree (Attempt), Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. Reyes Lazo is charged with Robbery 1st Degree (Attempt), Criminal Use of a Firearm 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Robbery 2nd Degree (Attempt) and Criminal Possession of a Firearm.  Both defendants will be arraigned on Friday, June 22, 2018 in First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
