The longstanding barbecue joint that has become iconic for many in Riverhead has closed its door - possibly forever.
A report in Riverheadlocal.com says that there were signs posted in the window of the restaurant that read “temporarily closed” but all other signs point to the barbecue place finally closing for good.
In 2018, New York State closed Spicy’s two locations in Riverhead and Bellport due to back taxes. The owners were committed to reopening. The Bellport location never did but the Riverhead Spicy’s did.
While there were mixed signals as to whether Spicy’s will reopen again after this latest setback, the landlord of the property in Riverhead told Riverheadlocal.com that the owners said they were closed for good.
Spicy’s Bar-B-Que has been at its Riverhead location since 1978.
