Bookstore Opening on Main Street in Riverhead

Written by Lon Cohen  |  26. June 2022

What seems like an anachronism is becoming a reality as the brick-and-mortar bookstore concept will be resurrected in downtown Riverhead. It’s harder and harder to find a real-life book seller these days but Jocelyn Kaleita is making it just a little bit easier with the opening of A Book Place at 489 East Main Street. She is taking over the former location of the Taste the East End boutique next door to Jerry and the Mermaid restaurant.

You can add it to the list of bookstores still open on Long Island come July 1.

According to a story in northforker.com, Kaleita, a former librarian, has toyed with the idea of opening a bookstore for years. When the opportunity to take over the Main Street site came up she took it.

“At the urging of family friend Jerry Dicecco, who owns the restaurant next door, she was going to add a book wall to the existing gift shop on the site,” the northforker.com reported. “After learning that the former tenant was moving on, she seized the opportunity.”
