Flash Flood Watch, Hazardous Weather Outlook Through Tomorrow for LI
After days of high humity, and clouds threatening to produce a downpour, it looks like heavy rains and thunderstorms are headed toward Long Island tonight and tomorrow. The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for both Nassau and Suffolk Counties, as well as a Flash Flood Watch that will be in effect from 12:00 PM this afternoon until 6:00 PM Friday evening.
According to the National Weather Service, a Flash Flood Watch is issued because based on the current forecasts, there is a potential for flooding in our area. The expected heavy rains showers could exceed two inches of rainfall in under an hour in some areas. It is recommended that anyone located by the water, or on a low lying property should pay close attention to the forecast updates, and be prepared to take action, should serious flooding develop.
The Hazardous Weather Outlook states that the expected thunderstorms could be strong to severe, and there is a moderate risk of rip tides developing.
