Mastic Beach, NY - June 29, 2015 - The William Floyd Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) recently welcomed Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Michele S. Jones (U.S. Army/retired), who was visiting as a keynote speaker for “Our Community Salutes,” a program designed to honor graduating seniors who are enlisting in military service.

CSM Jones had the opportunity to meet with the cadets and talk about her career in the military and her experiences, as well as her journey on becoming the first woman to serve in the CSM rank. She also spoke about character, hard work and determination.

“She was a wonderful resource for the cadets, having spent the day at school with our naval science classes discussing what to expect after graduation,” said Senior Chief Dwight Becherer, Senior Naval Science Instructor at William Floyd High School.

“Her service and commitment to the students who enlist in the military after graduation makes her an outstanding mentor,” said Commander Jay Tweed, Naval Science Instructor at William Floyd High School.
