A fire in a garage on Arlington Avenue in Port Jefferson erupted on Saturday June 25 around 7:30pm. A typical and uneventful call for the volunteers in the Port Jefferson Fire Department. The fire was handled according to a statement by the PJFD “without injury or extension to any other structures.”
What made this particular call special was that the alarm went out just after high school graduation and six of the firefighters responding were recent grads who shed their caps and gowns to don their gear and help fight the blaze.

“In the midst of taking pictures with their families they responded to the firehouse to handle the alarm,” the statement read.
This year PJFD had eight members graduate from Port Jefferson High School.
“They have each shown tremendous dedication to the department and community,” the PJFD said. “We are very proud of them and wish them well as they move on to college in the fall.”
