Suffolk Sheriff's Deputies Arrest Drunk Driver Nearly 4X Legal Limit

Written by Long Island  |  29. June 2022

On 06/29/2022, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Sheriff’s Deputies observed Bryan Mora, 25, of Central Islip, NY, driving a vehicle on 5th Avenue in Bay Shore. Mr. Mora was observed failing to maintain his lane of travel by swerving over the white hash marks separating the lanes of travel several times. Deputies stopped the vehicle and Mr. Mora demonstrated clues while performing standardized field sobriety tests that indicated he was intoxicated. At approximately 2:45 a.m. Mr. Mora was arrested and transported to 100 Center Drive, Riverhead, NY, where he submitted to a chemical breath test resulting in a .30% BAC.

Mr. Mora had a prior conviction for driving while intoxicated on April 26th, 2022. Due to this prior conviction and the high blood alcohol content, his car was impounded and Mr. Mora was arrested for Felony Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated.

In New York State, a BAC of 0.18 and higher results in charges of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated. A second offence within 10 years upgrades the charges from a misdemeanor to a class E felony, with a minimum $1,000 fine, up to 4 years in jail, and a minimum 18-month driver’s license revocation.

Sheriff Toulon applauds the hard work of the S.P.I.D.R.E Team. “As we head into the summer months, our DWI Enforcement Team will be out every night looking for impaired drivers. This particular motorist was so intoxicated he could have killed or seriously injured other drivers or himself. I thank these highly trained Deputies for their vigilance and determination in keeping Suffolk County safe.”
