AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Suspects Fire Gunshots at Taxi Driver in Bellport After Attempting to Rob Him, SCPD Say

SCPD are investigating an attempted armed robbery of a taxi driver in North Bellport on Thursday, June 29.

North Bellport, NY - June 30, 2017 - Suffolk County Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery of a taxi driver in North Bellport on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at approximately 10:36 p.m.
 
Suffolk County Police officers and the Fifth Squad responded to a call at Meade Avenue in North Bellport reporting an attempted robbery of the taxi he had just fled.
 
The man had just entered the pre-called taxi when three unknown black males approached the vehicle. One of the men displayed a gun and demanded cash from the driver. The driver struggled with the man for the gun, while the fare fled from the back of the vehicle and called 911.
 
The taxi driver accelerated, and a single shot was fired into the vehicle, breaking the driver’s side window. The taxi driver drove to a nearby 7-Eleven on Montauk Highway and Kane Avenue, where he dialed 911. All three of the suspects fled northbound.
 
Suffolk County Police were assisted by the Canine unit and Aviation. Evidence was recovered at both locations on Meade and within the taxi. Both the driver and the fare assisted in the police investigation. The driver sustained a minor graze wound to the abdomen, but did not require medical attention.
