The Long Island Music Hall of Fame has been trying to find a permanent spot for years. Over a decade ago the HOF planned to occupy the historic First National Bank building on Main Street in Port Jefferson village owned by Brookhaven Town. That idea failed to come to fruition after the Town decided to sell the building when the project to renovate it became too costly.

Now, after fits and starts, the organization is finally settling in at home in the Ward Melville Heritage Organization’s cultural center in Stony Brook Village. They’re also adopting a new name, according to the Long Island Press. It will be known as the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF).

The 8,800 square foot Education and Cultural Center is located at 97 Main Street, Stony Brook, NY in Stony Brook Village Center.

“We are thrilled that LIMEHOF has found a permanent home in such a wonderful location,” said Ernie Canadeo, Chairman, LIMEHOF in a statement.

They are planning a grand opening in November.

Founded in 2004, the LIMEHOF is dedicated to the idea that Long Island’s musical heritage is an important resource to be celebrated and preserved for future generations. The Hall of Fame honors artists from Brooklyn, Queens and Nassau and Suffolk counties who’ve made significant contributions to music. Inductees include Billy Joel, Louis Armstrong, LL Cool J, George M. Cohan, Lou Reed, the Ramones and Harry Chapin.
