Man Arrested for DWI with Child in Vehicle

Arrest occurred between New Highway and Poplar Street in North Amityville on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at approximately 1:35 a.m.

North Amityville, NY - July 1, 2014 - Suffolk County Police arrested a Copiague man for driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years old in the vehicle.
 
Juan Orellana-Lombalda, 38, was driving a 2001 Lexus southbound on New Highway when he was stopped by First Precinct Patrol Officer William Madden for a broken headlight at approximately 1:35 a.m. Orellana-Lombalda had his 14-year-old daughter in the vehicle with him.
 
Upon interview, it was determined that Orellana-Lombalda was under the influence of alcohol, and he was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15-Years-Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law). He was also issued five citations for vehicle and traffic law violations.
 
Orellana-Lombalda is being held at the First Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.
 
 A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
