Special Weather Statement issued December 21 at 10:02AM EST by NWS Upton NY Areas of 2 to 5 inches of snow have been reported across northeast New Jersey, NYC, Western Long Island, the Lower Hudson Valley, and parts of western Connecticut. Wind gusts may peak around 30-35 mph this afternoon and may persist into the early evening before weakening early tonight. Conditions during this time are expected to lead to blowing snow already on the ground. This can lead to quickly reduced visibilities on roadways. Any untreated surfaces may remain snow- covered and icy into this evening, leading to hazardous driving conditions. Leave plenty of space between you and other drivers and drive at reduced speeds.

The Third Squad reports the arrest of a New Jersey man for a Grand Larceny that occurred on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. in North New Hyde Park. 
 
According to Detectives, a female victim, 74, stated she was approached at her residence located on North 4th Street by an unknown male advising the victim that her roof needed repairs. The subject represented himself as a roof contractor and instructed the victim on multiple occasions to withdraw money from her bank account. The victim complied each time, withdrawing approximately $85,000.00 USC in total.
 
The victim grew suspicious and contacted a family member who called 911. After a thorough investigation, defendant Danny Burton, 26, of 410 S Randolphville Road, Piscataway was arrested without incident on Monday, July 1, 2024 in front of the victim’s residence. 
 
Defendant Burton is being charged with Grand Larceny 2nd degree, Criminal Mischief 2nd degree, two counts of Scheme to Defraud 1st degree and Conspiracy 5th degree. He was arraigned on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 99 Main Street, Hempstead. 
 
The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends and neighbors about potential scams or fraud.
