Rocky Point, NY - July 3rd, 2014 - Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed an elderly woman in Rocky Point today.
Francine Schenkel was driving a 1997 Toyota northbound on Rocky Point Road when she crossed into the southbound lane and continued off the roadway into a wooded area striking a tree, at approximately 2:45 p.m.
Schenkel, 87, of Ridge, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. There were no passengers in her vehicle.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing.
