Karamjit Singh, 33.

The Arson Bomb Squad reports the arrest of a Levittown man for causing a fire on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at 8:50 a.m. in Levittown.

According to Detectives, Officers responded to 128 Red Maple Drive North, for reports of a fire. Upon further investigation, it was determined that defendant Karamjit Singh, 33, of 128 Red Maple Drive North supplied an 11-year-old juvenile with fireworks and instructed the child to ignite it.

The firework malfunctioned and caused a detached shed, within the yard, to ignite which became engulfed in flames. The fire spread to the defendants dwelling and a neighboring home, located at 122 Red Maple Drive North. Wantagh Fire Department responded and extinguished the fires.

The defendant’s residence also housed a tenant on the second floor who was displaced due to the damages. Both homes suffered extensive damage, but there were no injuries reported. Defendant Singh was arrested without incident and the 11-year-old juvenile was released to a family member. Nassau County Fire Marshals were on scene to investigate.

Defendant Singh is charged with two counts of Arson 4th Degree, Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, Unlawfully Selling Fireworks to a Person under 18, Unlawfully Possessing Use or Explode Fireworks, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He will be arraigned on Friday, July 5, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
