Fourth of July turned tragic for one family when a fireworks mishap resulted in severe injuries to a local family. The incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. at 9 Foxrun Court in Port Jefferson Station where a crowd had gathered to enjoy the holiday fireworks display.
Patrice Ambroise, 38, his pregnant wife, Ashley, and their young daughter, Amelia, all from Mount Sinai, were among the spectators. Unfortunately, a 12-inch mortar firework malfunctioned, exploding into the crowd and causing significant injuries. Patrice suffered a severe leg injury that required emergency surgery. Ashley sustained serious hand injuries, and Amelia suffered second-degree burns and had to undergo emergency surgery to remove debris and treat her wounds.
The Ambroise family is currently receiving medical care at Stony Brook University Hospital. Ashley's pregnancy adds additional concern, as her condition is being closely monitored to ensure the health of her unborn child.
