After the scorching weather this weekend, don’t bet on it cooling off at the start of this workweek on Long Island.

The hot, humid and muggy conditions are expected to continue at least for the first part of the workweek. By the end of the workweek, temperatures are expected to hit just above 80 degrees – offering some relief, according to the National Weather Service.

This week, Long Island can also expect to see wet weather. Showers and thunderstorms are expected on Monday afternoon. There’s also a 40 percent chance increase for it by Wednesday and into the latter part of the week.

Until relief in weather comes, check out ways on “Keeping Cool This Summer,” including hitting the water at Long Island’s beaches and pools. There are also plenty of air-conditioned shopping malls on Long Island.

If you do have to head outdoors, take it safe with advice from the New York State Department of Health and the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, like drinking plenty of water and avoiding strenuous activities and exercise until cooler times of the day like the early morning or evening hours.

Also, never leave children or pets in closed vehicles.
