AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Man Critically Injured in Fight in Central Islip

The Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad is investigating an incident during which a man was critically injured in Central Islip last night.

Central Islip, NY - July 7th, 2013 - The Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad is investigating an incident during which a man was critically injured in Central Islip last night.

 Third Precinct police officers were called to a fight in the road on Peach Street on July 6 at 8:50 p.m. When officers arrived, they found Luis Gonzalez, 50, unconscious with a head injury. His son, Jonathan, 28, also suffered a head injury. Both were taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where Jonathan was treated and released and Luis was admitted in critical condition.
 

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
