AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. NCPD reports the arrest of Kenneth Kakareko of Oceanside, 50, for DWI.

Oceanside, NY - July 10, 2018 - The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of an Oceanside man for Driving While Intoxicated/Leandra’s Law that occurred on Monday, July 09, 2018 at 1:30 a.m. in Oceanside.
 
According to police, Kenneth Kakareko, 50, was observed operating a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer on Lawson Blvd. After conducting a car stop, it was discovered that the defendant had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, glassy eyes and slurred speech. The defendant was placed under arrest without incident. Kakareko had his 2 sons, both 11 years of age, in the car with him.
 
Further investigation revealed that earlier in the day, the defendant got into a verbal argument with his wife and smashed her cell phone.
 
Kenneth Kakareko is charged with two (2) counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child Under 15-Leandra’s Law), two (2) counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Intoxicated, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and various VTL infractions. He will be arraigned on Monday, July 9, 2018 at First District Court in Hempstead.
