Man Killed While Walking Across the Long Island Expressway

Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian on the Long Island Expressway in Medford early this morning.

Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian on the Long Island Expressway in Medford early this morning.

A man was walking across eastbound Long Island Expressway, between Exits 64 and 65, when he was struck by a 2016 Jeep Cherokee driven by Joseph Rehal Jr., and then by a 2022 Honda Pilot driven by Robert Kaiser, at 12:31 a.m.

The victim, who has not yet been identified by police, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Rehal Jr., 58, of Yaphank, and Kaiser, 53, of Medford, were not injured. 

The Jeep and the Honda were impounded for a safety checks. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Sixth Squad at 631-854-85652.
