Nassau County Police Rescue Injured Osprey Discovered on Roadside in East Rockaway

The Public Information Office reports the rescue of a protected class of bird that occurred on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. in East Rockaway.
 
According to Police, Officers from the Nassau County Police Department Marine Bureau located an injured Osprey in the vicinity of Harbor Road. Officers safely removed the bird from the roadway, they brought it inside of a building for shelter, safety, and comfort then contacted the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. 
 
The Osprey was safely transported by a New York State, Federally licensed, wildlife rehabilitator to a rehabilitation facility where it will be treated for its injuries and then released back into the wild.
