Albany, NY - July 13, 2015 - Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman released the following statement on the resolution adopted by the Boy Scouts of America on July 10, 2015, to rescind its ban on openly gay adult members:

"In a year already marked by historic advancements for the rights of LGBT Americans, today’s announcement by the Boy Scouts is yet another important step forward,” said New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman. “My office is committed to ensuring that employers do not discriminate based on sexual orientation and gender identity, and proud that the Boy Scouts are taking this critical step in promotion of the American ideal of equality. In my office’s April letter to the Boy Scouts, we demanded that the organization uphold every New Yorkers’ right to equal protection under the law. I am pleased that the Boy Scouts have taken steps to join the growing list of organizations and companies that share my office’s commitment to equal justice for all.”

The resolution adopted by the Boy Scouts will be presented to the National Executive Board for final approval on July 27, 2015.
