Laurelton Man Responsible for Multiple Nassau Vehicle Rim and Tire Thefts, Cops Say
Laurelton, NY - July 14, 2017 - The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of a Laurelton man for Criminal Possession of a Weapon that occurred on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 4:56 pm.
According to Burglary Pattern Team detectives, Bureau of Special Operations Officers conducted a Vehicular Traffic Law stop and investigation after observing the defendant Ethan Johnson, 24, driving a 2017 Audi and committing numerous driving violations in the vicinity of 420 Nassau Road.
During the stop the defendant Johnson attempted to drive away and ignore all verbal commands by police to stop. Police then entered his vehicle in order to prevent it from leaving. At this time a brief violent struggle ensued after the defendant was observed opening a glove box and reaching for a 22 caliber handgun. Ethan Johnson was placed into police custody. There were no injuries reported.
An investigation revealed the 2017 Audi driven by Ethan Johnson was stolen.
Further investigation conducted by the Burglary Pattern Team Detectives revealed that the defendant is responsible for automobile tire and rim Grand Larcenies that occurred throughout Nassau County. They are as follows:
- On March 06, 2015 – 4 rims and tires were removed from a victim’s 2015 Honda parked on Williams Street in Williston Park.
- On February 18, 2016 – 4 tires and rims were removed from a victim’s 2015 Infiniti parked on Elderberry Road in North Bellmore.
- On February 25, 2016 – 4 tires and rims were removed from victim’s 2015 Mercedes Benz parked on Causeway in Lawrence.
- On February 26, 2016 – 4 tires and rims were removed from victim’s 2014 Mercedes Benz parked on Scherer Boulevard in Franklin Square.
- On April 26, 2016 – 4 tires and rims were removed from the victim’s 2015 Mercedes Benz parked on Atlantic Avenue in Garden City.
Ethan Johnson is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd Degree, 4 counts of Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, and Grand Larceny 4th Degree. He was arraigned on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at First District Court in Hempstead.
