Suffolk Sheriff: Extreme Risk Protection Order Leads to Felony Drug Charges

While executing an Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office placed felony charges on a Sayville resident for possession and intent to sell illegal narcotics.

Recently, the Sheriff’s Office Domestic Violence Unit served an Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) search warrant on Sydney Scott, 31, from Sayville, which resulted in illegal drugs being discovered. 

Subsequently, a criminal search warrant was obtained by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau and executed collaboratively between the Domestic Violence Unit, Criminal Investigations Bureau and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office resulting in the discovery of a quantity of fentanyl, cocaine, packaging material, scales, a pill press, and cutting agents consistent with narcotic drug sales.

“The discovery of these deadly drugs is a lifesaving act by getting them off our streets before they were able to be sold to potential victims.  Thank you to the Deputy Sheriffs that work to keep the public safe by executing these dangerous search warrants day after day,” said Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. 

The defendant is being charged with:

  • 2 counts criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell- B Felonies
  • 2 counts criminal possession of a controlled substance - A Misdemeanors
  • 3 counts criminally using drug paraphernalia 2nd - A Misdemeanors

An Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) is a court order issued when a person may be dangerous to themselves or others. The Extreme Risk Protection Order Law became effective in New York State as of August 24, 2019, and prevents individuals who show signs of being a threat to themselves or others from purchasing or possessing any kind of firearm.
