AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Stranded Jet Skier Rescued From Long Island Sound

Marine Bureau officers rescued a New Jersey man who became stranded on a jet ski for approximately four hours and was found on the Long Island Sound this evening.

Belle Terre, NY - July 14th, 2013 -  Marine Bureau officers rescued a New Jersey man who became stranded on a jet ski for approximately four hours and was found on the Long Island Sound this evening.  

Luis Rivera left Smithtown Marina on a jet ski at approximately 6:30 p.m. and when he did not return, his friends called police.  Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers, Aviation Section officers, along with officers from the U.S. Coast Guard, searched for Rivera by boat and by helicopter.  Marine Bureau Officers James Comstock and Joseph Devlin in Marine Delta located Rivera at approximately 10:40 p.m. on the Long Island Sound, two miles north of Belle Terre.  Rivera was stranded and he was unable to return to Smithtown Marina because the jet ski he was riding on ran out of gas. 

Rivera, 37, of New Jersey, was transported to the Brookhaven Town Boat Ramp in Port Jefferson where he was reunited with his family.  He was not injured and was wearing a life jacket.
