Tragedy in Shirley: Apparent Drowning Victim at Smith Point County Park Identified by Police
Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death of a man who was pulled from the water in Shirley on Sunday, July 14.
Seventh Precinct officers responded to Outer Beach at Smith Point County Park at approximately 3:55 p.m. after good Samaritans pulled an unresponsive man from the water. The man was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue where he was pronounced dead.
The man, who is believed to have drowned, has been identified as Michael Petruzzo, a 64-year-old undomiciled man.
