Woodmere, NY - July 16th, 2014 - The Crimes Against Property Squad reports the details of an arrest for Forgery and Identity Theft that occurred in Woodmere.

According to detectives, on July 9, 2014 a 49 year old male victim noticed that he had not received mail at his Woodmere home for a couple of days.  Curious, the victim asked his mailman why and was told that his mail had been forwarded to another address in New York City (Manhattan) from July 5, 2014 to July 19, 2014. The victim notified Nassau County Police Department and Postal authorities. It was also determined  that the victims’ home telephone number was forwarded to a 917 number and a unknown subject had opened a Capital One credit card (in the victims’ name), purchased three gift cards from Apple totaling over $5000 and made an online purchase from Bloomingdales totaling $2000 using the victims’ American Express card number.  

On July 15, 2014 after a joint investigation with the United States Postal Service, Joshua N. Klarsfeld, 42, of 533 E 12th Street, New York, NY was placed under arrest at a East Broadway, Manhattan post office.  The defendant was then transported to Nassau County Police Department – Fourth Precinct for processing.

The defendant is being charged with Forgery 2nd Degree, Identity Theft 2nd Degree and Attempted Identity Theft 1st Degree.  He will be arraigned on July 16, 2014 at First District Court, Hempstead.
