NCPD: Baldwin Man Arrested After Allegedly Running Nearly $400K Scam on Elderly Long Island Man

The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of a Baldwin man for an Elder Scam / Grand Larceny that occurred on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 in North New Hyde Park.
 
According to detectives, a 73-year-old male victim received a notification on his computer stating that his device had been compromised and he needed to contact the number provided to protect his assets. The victim contacted an unknown subject who claimed to work for the Federal Trade Commission and was instructed to purchase six gold bars totaling approximately $390,000 from JM Bullion. The victim complied and an unknown male in an unknown vehicle arrived at his residence to retrieve the gold bars.
 
After a thorough investigation, the Major Case Bureau in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Suffolk County Police Department arrested Defendant Yash J. Shah, 25, of 701 Prospect Street. 
 
The Defendant is charged with Grand Larceny 2nd Degree. He was arraigned on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
 
The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends and neighbors about potential scams or frauds.
