Weather Alert

AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 11 PM EDT MONDAY The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam. from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Sunday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. The toll free number is 1 800 5 3 5, 1 3 4 5.

Albany, NY - July 18, 2013 - Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the launch of a new I Love NY marketing campaign designed to inspire millions of baseball fans to vacation in New York State this summer. The program is being rolled out on the YES Network, the official home of the 27-time World Series champion New York Yankees, and SportsNet NY (SNY), the official station of the New York Mets and features 15 second spots with popular Yankees and Mets personalities.

“As two of the most well-known sports franchises in the world, New York’s own Yankees and Mets are the perfect ambassadors to promote our state to baseball fans across the nation,” Governor Cuomo said. “This campaign in partnership with YES Network and SportsNet NY will feature some of baseball’s biggest star players to pitch all of what New York has to offer to visitors, from games at CitiField and Yankee Stadium to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. This summer, there is no better destination for fans to vacation than the Empire State.”

The Yankees’ lineup for the spots includes all-time saves leader Mariano Rivera and reliever David Robertson, along with Manager Joe Girardi, who has led the club to four consecutive postseason appearances, including the 2009 World Series championship.

For the New York Mets, the lineup includes third baseman David Wright, seven-time All-Star, two-time Gold Glove Award winner and two-time Silver Slugger Award winner, along with lefty-batting, second baseman Daniel Murphy, and starting pitcher Matt Harvey, who served as the starting pitcher for the 2013 National League All-Star game in addition to being the first major league pitcher in nine years to start an All-Star Game in his home ballpark.

The spots will air during Yankees and Mets games on YES and SNY, respectively, throughout July and August, as well as across other programming on the networks. Fans at the games will also enjoy seeing the spots featuring their favorite players airing at home games on the stadiums scoreboards at both Yankee Stadium and Citi Field.

Seeing "I Love NY" signage behind home plate, fans of visiting teams will also get the message that the Yankees and Mets love their home state -- and that New York State loves them back.
