Recently, July 16, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced a record State investment of nearly $51 million for public safety on Long Island. Nassau County agencies received $1,494,692 and Suffolk County agencies received $1,307,677 for the GIVE funding cycle that runs from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025. This funding also includes approximately $21.1 million in one-time capital funding to 39 police departments and sheriffs’ offices – including $387,042 for the purchase of law enforcement technology and equipment to allow those agencies more effectively solve, reduce and prevent crime.
Following the announcement, Nassau County Legislators Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) and Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick), who represent the Village of Freeport in the Legislature, issued the following statements:
“As local public servants, enhancing public safety and preserving quality of life is our most pressing responsibility,” Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) said. “This influx of millions of dollars in new State resources will go a long way toward equipping our local law enforcement professionals to optimally serve and protect the public, and I applaud Governor Hochul and New York State for maintaining such a keen focus on crime-fighting initiatives. Working together, we will keep Nassau County the safest municipality of its size in the United States.”
“By equipping Freeport PD and Nassau County’s Police and Sheriff Departments with these essential resources, Governor Hochul and New York State have once again demonstrated their ironclad commitment to local law enforcement and the disciplines that keep Nassau County the safest municipality of our size in America,” Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) said. “I am tremendously grateful for the millions of dollars that Governor Hochul has secured for our region and am looking forward to seeing how these resources will be applied toward further reducing crime and improving our quality of life.”
