The 5th Annual Art Southampton Fair Showing Significant Sales in the Heart of the Hampton's

Southampton, NY - July 18, 2016 - Art Southampton, the acclaimed contemporary and modern art fair, drew to a close on Monday, July 11th, welcoming art aficionados and curators as well as international collectors to the grounds of Nova's Ark Project. Upon entering the fair, guests were greeted by the Sculpture Garden designed by the award winning LaGuardia Design, in partnership with Marders, which featured sculptures from artists Carole Feuerman courtesy of C24 Gallery, Gino Miles courtesy of Gallery Valentine and Ju Ming courtesy of iPreciation and many others. Contemporary artworks from the 20th and 21st century were showcased by more than 70 internationally renowned galleries, and impressive sales were garnered throughout the course of the fair.

On Thursday, July 7th, Art Miami Partner and Art Southampton Fair Director Nick Korniloff hosted more than 4,000 special guests for an exclusive VIP Preview Party benefitting the Parrish Art Museum and Southampton Hospital inside the massive 100,000-square-foot pavilion. As the main sponsor of Art Southampton, Christie's International Real Estate hosted an elegant booth at the main entrance of the fair, showcasing luxury residential property offerings from around the world. Guests enjoyed drinks and cocktails provided by VOSS, Mamont Vodka, Schlumberger Sparkling Wine and O'Leary's Chardonnay with hors d'oeuvres by the Southampton Social Club throughout the VIP Preview.

Those in attendance included Brooke Shields, Dorothy Lichtenstein, Ruth Baum, Tony Award winning Broadway producer Stewart Lane, Bobby Flay, Kevin and Linda O'Leary, Audrey Gruss, Elayne Mordes, award-winning cartoonist Jules Feiffer, Southampton Hospital President & CEO Robert Chaloner, Kevin Berlin, Randi Shatz, Parrish Art Museum Director Terrie Sultan, Hal Buckner, Christie's International Real Estate President Dan Conn, Gary and Katherine Andreassen, Cindy Farkas, New York Academy of Art President David Kratz, Leesa Rowland and Larry Wohl, Morphew Concept's Bridgette Morphew and Jason Lyon, Melody Mayer, Steve Bernstein, Bonnie Conley, Melanie Wambold and Michel Cox Witmer. 

Academy Award winner Adrien Brody's second series entitled Hooked drew interest from many collectors; the pieces featured colorful and vibrant fish paintings and was presented by Benrimon Projects. The New York Academy of Art exhibition, Call of the Wild, co-curated by Brooke Shields and Academy President David Kratz, featured stunning paintings and sculptures by academy alumni focusing on the natural world and the animal kingdom.

Shark Tank host Kevin O'Leary introduced his contemporary photography exhibition Irreconcilable Images, which was presented by Gallery Valentine and benefitted the Perry J. Cohen Foundation and aspiring teenage entrepreneurs.

The East End was also well represented, with work from past and present local artists including Perry Burns, Eric Fischl, Raymond Hendler, Jeff Muhs, Charlotte Park, Susan Vecsey and Esteban Vicente.

Additionally, Art Southampton hosted a selection of special events including As I See It: Artists in the Hamptons, an overview of famous artists who have made the Hamptons their home and inspiration, New York Top Hats by Kevin Berlin where, in association with McNeill Art Group, the international artist unveiled his signature, luxury top hats, and, along with the Parrish Art Museum, an intimate Champagne brunch for museum benefactors and private collectors. Similarly, David Kratz, President of the New York Academy of Art, along with Brooke Shields, hosted a reception to discuss the Call of the Wild exhibition, inviting guests for cocktails and conversation on Saturday evening.

Art Southampton gave collectors, curators, art advisors, architects, designers and decorators the chance to acquire the finest blue chip modern and contemporary works of art in the world including pieces from Warhol, Banksy, Sophia Wallace, Shinji Murakami, Gary Fabien Miller and Russell Young. Throughout the fair there were reports of important sales from the VIP preview to the closing day. These included:

  • Benrimon Projects sold "Marilyn" by Andy Warhol for $225,000, two Kaws pieces including, "You Should Know I Know" (2015) and "Ups and Downs" (2013) for $45,000 and $12,000 respectively and three Francois-Xavier Lalanne sheep including, "Brebis" (1997), bronze and epoxystone, 39 x 39 x 16 inches, Edition of 250, "Belier", (1996), bronze and epoxystone, 37 x 40 x 13 3/4 inches, Edition of 250 and "Agneau" (1994), bronze and epoxystone, 20 1/2 x 24 x 7 inches, Edition of 500
  • Heller Gallery sold Tobias Mohl, "5 Part Black Twill Collection" (2016) glass, wood, lighting, fixturing for $42,000
  • Hackelbury Fine Art sold "Golden 2" by Garry Fabien Miller in Light, Oil, Lambda C-print from dye destruction print for $30,000
  • Adelson sold "Sitting Rabbit" (small) (2016) bullet shells, 13x11x8 inch by Federico Uribe for $7,500 and "Penny Landscape" (coins) 28x32 inches for $15,000
  • De Re Gallery sold a variety of Brian Booven Smith pieces for $5,000 a piece and Danny Minnick pieces for $12,000
  • Hexton Gallery sold "After The Applause" by Eric Holubow, 39.5x72 inches, sublimation on aluminum, (2015) for $9,850
  • Art Bastion sold Edwina Sandys, "Poodle Parade" (2001) Material Painted aluminum. Dimensions 45.5x30x25 in, base 36x2 in (wheel base)
  • Arteria sold eight pieces including "Deep Star" by Sylvie Adams, "Proof 148" by Pasha Setrova and "Landmark" by Pierre Luc Deziel. Peter Marcelle Project sold a Sherry Wolf and a Catherine McCormack piece
  • Gallerie d'Orsay sold "Lake View" by Kathy Buist and "Twilight Walk #4" by Natasha Zupan.
  • Keszler Gallery sold a Banksy, Marco Glaviano and a Russell Young
  • Gladwell & Paterson sold a Simon Grudgeon entitled "Sunset on the Water", mixed media and several Karl Martens watercolor pieces
  • Shine Gallery sold 3 large works by Mary Kim (2016) graffiti mix on ultra chrome ink print
  • Jean Albano Gallery sold a selection of pieces from Donna Rosenthal
  • Saatchi sold a Nushka entitled "Second Study for Pink Silk" oil on canvas 15.7x11.8 inches
  • Sponder sold Donald Martiny, "Shudet" (2016), 37x64x4, polymer pigment on aluminum, sold one in red and one in blue, two Metis Atash "Baby Punk" mixed media, 2016 pieces, Metis Atash "My Little Dreamer", mixed media, 2016 piece and "White Moon 3" 2015 by Kikuo Saito
  • The Catinca Tabacaru Gallery sold "Herself a Universe" by Sophia Wallace, 2016 and a Shinji Murakami entitled "Puppy" 2016
  • UNIX reported a sale for "Feast of 1000 Likes" by Desire Obtain Cherish
  • Waltman Gallery sold a Francois Bard "Josephine" (2016) oil on canvas and a pieces from Jorge Enrique and Ayline Olukman
  • Contessa sold pieces by Mr. Brainwash and David Drebin
  • Skipwiths sold a selection of pieces by Kim Jae II, Kwang YoungChun and Hyojin Park
  • The New York Academy of Art sold eight pieces including "Bunny" by John O'Reilly 2016, "Dilate 8" by Nicolas V. Sanchez 2016 and "Hare Family" by Susan Siegel. The academy noted that all by Susan Siegel were purchased at the VIP preview.
